Nuts for your Nuts?!
Sperm quality improved by adding nuts to diet, study says
A recent study has identified how eating nuts regularly as a regular part of a healthy diet could improve sperm health.
119 healthy men between 18 and 35 were randomly divided into a "+nuts" group and a "no changes" group. The +nuts group added 2oz (60g) of nuts a day to their normal diet.
The +nuts group improved sperm:
- count by 14%
- vitality by 4%
- motility by 6%
One hypothesis is the nuts boosted beneficial omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and the B vitamin folate, which other studies have shown to improve fertility.
"Evidence is accumulating in the literature that healthy lifestyle changes such as following a healthy dietary pattern might help conception," said Dr Albert Salas-Huetos, from the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, in Spain, who led the study.
